Student killed on pedestrian crossing
A PRIMARY school student died yesterday afternoon after a car hit her on a pedestrian crossing on the West Bank Demerara, police reported.

Police said that at about 15:00h, Elezebeth McGowan, 7, a student of La Retraite Primary School, was knocked down on the Stanleytown public road.

The child, who lived at Church Street, Stanleytown, was crossing the road from west to east on a pedestrian crossing when she was struck down by a car, police reported.

She died before receiving medical attention at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Police said they have detained the 27-year old driver of the car who was allegedly speeding.
